At Great Basin Dental, we understand that missing teeth can affect more than just your smile. They can make it hard to chew, speak, and feel confident. Bridges are one of the restorative dentistry solutions we offer to help bring back the comfort and function of your natural bite. A dental bridge in our Reno, NV office can restore your teeth and improve your oral health.

A dental bridge is a custom-made device that fills the gap created by one or more missing teeth. Dr. Anthony Guillen and Kristian Sievert provide bridges to help you regain your function and appearance.

What is a Dental Bridge?

A dental bridge is made up of two or more dental crowns on either side of the gap. A traditional bridge is anchored to crown-capped teeth and an implant bridge uses implant posts instead of your teeth. The false tooth or teeth in the middle, called pontics, fill the space left by your missing teeth. Bridges can be made from materials like porcelain, which can match the color of your natural teeth. Natural-looking materials can make them look seamless.

Benefits of Dental Bridges

Dental bridges offer several benefits for those with missing teeth. One of the main advantages is that they restore your ability to chew and speak properly. When you’re missing teeth, it can be difficult to eat certain foods and pronounce some words clearly. A tooth bridge helps to restore normal function.

Bridges also help maintain the shape of your face and prevent the surrounding teeth from shifting into the gap left by the missing teeth. This shifting can lead to further dental issues over time, so getting a bridge can be an important step in maintaining your overall oral health.

Additionally, dental bridges can enhance your smile and boost your confidence. A full set of teeth contributes to a more attractive appearance. You can feel more self-assured when smiling or speaking with others after you get a bridge.

How Does a Dental Bridge Work?

The process of getting a dental bridge typically involves a few steps. First, we’ll evaluate your mouth to determine if a bridge is the right option for you. If you decide to move forward, we prepare the teeth on either side of the gap by reshaping them to fit the crowns. This may involve removing a small amount of enamel to ensure a proper fit.

Once your teeth are prepared, we take impressions of your mouth to create a custom bridge that fits perfectly. We’ll also provide a temporary bridge your permanent bridge is made in a local dental lab. You’ll return to our office in a few weeks when your permanent bridge is ready. We’ll place it in your mouth and make any necessary adjustments to ensure a comfortable fit.

If you get an implant-supported bridge, our oral surgeon will place the dental implants first. We don’t need to prepare your natural teeth for an implant bridge. After your implant posts fuse with your jaw bone, we place connectors called abutments.

Then we take impressions. Once you’re fully healed, we attach your permanent bridge to the implants.

Caring for Your Dental Bridge

Taking care of your dental bridge ensures it lasts for many years. Good oral hygiene practices, such as brushing twice a day and flossing daily, are important. Clean around the bridge and the crowns to prevent plaque buildup and gum disease. Regular dental checkups are also essential for maintaining your bridge and overall oral health.
